Ahhh yeah... so in case you didn't notice, I've been somewhat absent lately. I took two trips packed into too short a time space (3-day turnaround... I may or may not blog about those later :P), then was the Teen Harvest Family Reconciliation Retreat, then it was finally dry enough to work in the garden. This has been a VERY wet spring so far. Very weird, too, weather-wise. It was really hot, then chilly, now it's fixin' to get hot again.
So, while I was gone, my poor garden was grossly neglected. The weeds were taller than the lettuce and a lot of my tomatoes were not taken care of so they died :( Sadly both my Passiflora Molissimas died because someone decided to move all my plants outside and it was too cold for them. Devastating :'( I was so looking forward to making it work! *sigh* but I guess it serves me right, eh? Goin' away like that and leaving my poor garden. Grrr. The good news is that a lady to whom we've been ministering came while I was gone the second time and got the rest of the tomatoes and the peppers planted (even if she sorta mixed things up so I'm not completely sure what's what anymore).
Since I got back, I've done a lot of weeding and post-tilling-cleanup (raking rocks and grass) and I got the watermelons planted. The work has just begun... Oh, and someone donated a bunch of old hay to put down as mulch. Yayness!
Ok, on to the most exciting part of this post: free food! Today I'm going to share another huge favorite around here, lemon blueberry cake! We are huge lemon-lovers and huge blueberry-lovers around here, and when you put the two together things just get better. This cake is just... wow... sooo good! The sad part is that blueberries aren't fresh year-round (unless you have enough money to buy them from the grocery store, which we don't usually) and frozen blueberries don't work as well on top. They're ok, but not great. Frozen berries work fine inside the cake, though, so it's not a total loss! But believe me... fresh blueberries on top make the cake! Ok, enough rattling. Here's the recipe: http://www.cookingclub.com/recipes/articletype/articleview/articleid/8057 Enjoy!
